It is going to be an expensive holiday if you live in places such as the UK and you are planning on going anywhere in Europe this year, for with the aftermath of the recent general election coupled with the impending Brexit the value of Sterling has been dropping like a stone against the Euro.

That has led to many holidaymakers to desperately hunt around for a way of locking in the current value of GBP against the Euro in case it drops any more, and one way they have been able to do so is by making use of a pre-paid currency card.

There are many pre-paid currency cards on the market and one of the benefits of getting one is that as soon as you load onto that card for example Euros, the exchange rate offered at the moment in time you load that card will be the one in use for that transaction.

You can use that currency card much like you use a debit card and as such you will be able to take local currency out of any ATM whilst you are away and you will also be able to use it in shops and restaurants too.

Many currency card issuers will also give you an online log in to your card account and as such you are going to be able to top up that account online if you need any more funds adding to your card when you are away, and you will also be able to check the balance reaming on your card to via that online account.

One thing we would urge anyone who is thinking of getting a currency card to do is to check the fees and charges that you are going to be hit with when using that card, for often you will be required to pay a fee each time you use an ATM or when making some purchases with that card.

Whilst it may be an ideal and very safe way for you to carry cash around with you without physically needing to carry cash, you will not want a huge chunk of your holiday spending money being used up in fees and charges.

Also, some currency card issuers will also charge you a fee for getting one of their cards and may also charge you a fee each time you top up your card too! So if you do fancy getting such a card make sure you shop around and compare what each card is going to be offering you, as to be fair there are some very reasonable currency cards available that will not cost you the earth to use them!
